Q: Why did you choose Dr. Wagner and the Heart of America Bariatrics team?

A: “Dr. Wagner did my husband’s gastric bypass surgery. His expertise and the staff were unbelievable. Not just the surgery but the aftercare you get from the staff is amazing.”

Featured Patient: Tammie

“Hi, My name is Tammie Scullin and I have battled my weight for most of my adult life.  I have lost weight through every “diet” program you can think of including Weight Watchers, Slim Fast and Nutri-System – you name it I have tried it!  After boredom with these programs set in, I would return to my old habits and quickly regain the weight I lost, and then some! I continued to gain weight over the years; slowly creeping up on the scale and in clothes sizes, and never truly facing the harsh reality of my obesity. I was tired, sore, had very little energy and worst of all my self esteem was non-existent.

In June of 2009 there was a company function and a picture was taken of me, walking away from the photographer.  To my horror and dismay I learned that the picture was hung in a collage of photos from that event, in the foyer of our business.  Everyday I walked into work I had to look at that picture, there it was, REALITY, staring right back at me.  At 342 lbs I knew it was time to make a change, for me, my health, my self-esteem and my family!

On August 24th 2009 my husband had Roux-en-Y surgery with Dr. Wagner.  The day we left the hospital and headed home I decided “TODAY IS THE DAY” to make that very important change in my life, just as he had done.  We started a journey together, and it turned out to be one of the most important times in my life.  We changed our eating habits by making healthier choices, reducing our portions, and breaking the fast food habit. He knew he had to exercise to be successful, and so did I, so we started walking together, almost every single day.  We continued this pattern and started dropping weight like crazy and finally feeling successful!  I lost 60lbs but I was still 282 lbs.  I had hit a brick wall and was getting very discouraged.  So I decided to attend one of Dr. Wagner’s seminars.  The one I decided to attend was one that my husband was speaking at.  I knew that day I was ready to make a life long change and decided to get the Realize band.   I was 272 lbs when I went in for surgery on Sept 16th 2010 and I am down 62 lbs today. I still have a ways to go to hit my goal weight but through continued healthy eating and Zumba 4 days a week and walking I know I will continue to be successful.  I have learned to love myself again and I have regained my self esteem.  You just don’t realize how the way you feel about yourself can have such a huge impact on very aspect of you life both professionally and personally.

Dr. Wagner and his office are amazing.  They truly make it feel like a family. The support you receive from them is like none other.  I made the best decision of my life.”
